CBDT has issued an Order on 30.07.2022 under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (‘Act’) directing all the ASK Centers throughout India to remain open on 31st July 2022 during normal office hours in view of the closed holiday, being Sunday, on 31st July, 2022.
The Order states that the prescribed due date as per the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act for filing of returns of income for the assessment year 2022-23 in respect of non-auditable cases is 31st July 2022.
In view of the closed holiday on 31st July 2022, being Sunday, it is hereby directed that ASK Centers throughout India shall remain open on 31st July 2022 during normal office hours.
It has further direct for making special arrangements by way of opening additional receipt counters, wherever required, on 31st July 2022, to facilitate the filing of tax returns by the taxpayers.
In view of the above, it seems that there will be no extension of the due date for filing of return of income in respect of non-auditable cases from 31st July 2022 for the assessment year 2022-23 as demanded by the taxpayers and professionals.
Earlier also the Revenue Secretary, Mr. Tarun Bajaj denied any extension of the due date for filing of return of income for the AY 2022-23 from the 31st July 2022 as the portal is working smoothly.

The prescribed due date as per the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Income-tax Act,1961 ('Act') for filing of returns of income for assessment year 2022-23 in respect of non-auditable cases is 31st July 2022. In view of closed holiday on 31st July 2022, being Sunday, it is hereby directed that ASK Centers throughout India shall remain open on 31st July 2022 during normal office hours. Further, special arrangements may also be made by way of opening additional receipt counters, wherever required, on 31st July 2022, to facilitate filing of tax returns by the taxpayers.
2. This order is issued for administrative convenience by the CBDT in exercise of powers conferred under section 119 (1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It may be given wide publicity.
